Working with patterns

Building pages

Patterns are pre-built sections: a hero, a pricing table, a team grid, a full page layout. Insert one, replace the text and images, and move on. They are the fastest way to build with these themes.

Inserting a pattern

  1. Edit any page or post.
  2. Click the + button, then the Patterns tab.
  3. Pick the theme’s category from the dropdown.
  4. Click a pattern to drop it in.

Once inserted, a pattern is just ordinary blocks. Edit any part of it, delete what you do not need, or move sections around.

Whole-page patterns

Each theme includes complete page layouts in its Pages category — a full homepage, an about page, a contact page. These are the quickest starting point: insert one and replace the content.

Patterns are copies, not links

Inserting a pattern copies its blocks into your page. Editing it later changes only that page, and a theme update will never overwrite content you have already placed. If you want one block that updates everywhere, use a synced pattern instead (Appearance → Editor → Patterns → Create).

Replacing images

Click any image, then Replace in the toolbar. The placeholder images that ship with a theme are there to show the layout — swap them for your own before going live. They are licensed for use with the theme, but they are not yours to reuse elsewhere.

Saving your own

Built a section you want again? Select the blocks, click the three-dot menu and choose Create pattern. It then appears in your inserter alongside the theme’s own.

If a pattern looks wrong

Almost always this means the theme is not active, or you are looking at a WooCommerce pattern without WooCommerce installed. Check Appearance → Themes first. If a block shows “This block contains unexpected content”, click Attempt recovery — this is normal for WooCommerce blocks and does not indicate a problem.
