Be strong · Editorial & Portfolio
Athena is built for writers, studios, portfolios and creative practices — typography-led, generous with white space, and deliberately quiet so the work is what you notice.
At a glance
- 15 templates, 27 patterns
- 3 style variations: Pallas, Chryse, Glaukopis
- 19 font pairings across four moods
- All fonts bundled locally — no external requests, no CDN
- No WooCommerce templates, but WooCommerce-compatible styling if you add a shop later
Choosing a homepage
Athena ships three homepage layouts. Create a page, then pick one under Page → Template in the sidebar:
- Editorial — for writing-led sites and publications.
- Studio — for agencies and practices.
- Creator — for a personal portfolio.
Then set it under Settings → Reading → Your homepage displays → A static page.
Page templates
Besides the homepages you get Page with Hero (full-width image header), Page with Title (simple title band) and Blank (no header or footer — useful for landing pages).
The image styles
Athena adds two image block styles you will not find in core: Portrait (3:4) and Standard (4:3). Select an image and pick one from the Styles panel to keep galleries visually consistent regardless of the source images.
The heading rule
Athena gives every H2 a coloured left border. It is part of the theme’s character, but if you would rather not have it, remove the border under Styles → Blocks → Heading.
Start with the default
The default is the editorial face of the theme: Abel for headings, Ibarra Real Nova for body text, and a restrained steel-blue palette that stays out of the way of your writing. H2 headings carry a small coloured left border, which is Athena’s signature detail.
Fonts: Abel & Ibarra Real Nova · Palette: soft steel blue with a dusty rose accent
You do not have to change anything. The default is a finished design, not a placeholder — the style variations are alternatives, not upgrades.
Style variations
Pallas is blush and pink, Chryse is gold, Glaukopis is sage green. All three change typography as well as colour. See switching style variations.
